A Sweet Statement: Wedding Cake Trends with Chef Gina’s Bakeshop

There’s something about a wedding cake that goes beyond dessert-it’s a centerpiece, a reflection of style, and often one of the most anticipated details of the day. For couples looking to make a statement while still honoring timeless tradition, Gina Giampietro of Chef Gina’s Bakeshop is creating confections that feel as artful as they are unforgettable.
Gina’s passion for pastry began at a young age, baking alongside her grandfather-an experience that sparked a lifelong love for the craft. She went on to refine her skills at The Culinary Institute of America in upstate New York before gaining hands-on experience in several bread and dessert shops. Eventually, she became the pastry chef at a country club in Cleveland, where she steadily built her own business. About five years ago, she took the leap to pursue Chef Gina’s Bakeshop full time, bringing her signature blend of artistry and flavor to weddings and events across the region.
Known for her intricate designs and thoughtful approach to flavor, Gina specializes in custom cakes and desserts that elevate every celebration, from corporate events and intimate gatherings to full-scale wedding weekends. Her work blends classic technique with modern creativity, resulting in cakes that feel both uniquely personal and effortlessly on-trend.
So what are couples loving right now? Gina is seeing a shift toward designs that are both experiential and visually impactful.
“I would say that I am starting to see more and more long table cakes,” she shares. “The vintage lambeth designs are still in style as well as more whimsical buttercream texture and flowers.”
And when it comes to creating a memorable guest experience, one trend continues to rise: pairing a wedding cake with a thoughtfully curated dessert table.
“Dessert tables are always a favorite because it gives guests a lot of variety and options, and there’s something for everyone,” Gina explains. Beyond just variety, these displays invite interaction encouraging guests to move around, sample different flavors, and connect with one another throughout the evening.
She recalls one wedding where each guest table featured its own single-tiered cake in a different flavor. The result was an experience that went far beyond dessert. Guests mingled between tables, comparing flavors and sparking conversation, turning the cake into a shared, interactive moment and one of guest’s favorite parts of the day.
Visually, dessert tables also complement the wedding cake beautifully. Together, they enhance the overall design and feel of the celebration, acting as an extension of the décor itself. From layered textures to cohesive color palettes, these displays bring both style and substance to the reception, which is something Gina considers one of the most fun and creative aspects of her work.

From elongated statement cakes designed for shared moments to intricately piped vintage details and soft, organic floral finishes, today’s wedding desserts are leaning into both nostalgia and individuality. For couples who want to go beyond a single cake moment, curated dessert displays continue to be a standout.
If you’re envisioning a cake that feels meaningful, beautiful, and absolutely delicious, Chef Gina is ready to bring it to life.
